Medical Information

It is important to keep your distance, wear a mask, wash your hands, and avoid eating
or drinking at parties where you are likely to be exposed to droplets, regardless of the size of the party or whether you have been drinking. Urethane masks are almost ineffective in preventing the spread of the disease, so please use non-woven masks that cover your nose and mouth without gaps.

Even if you take sufficient precautions as described above, it is still possible to become
infected under the current circumstances. Each of us needs to consider what to do when
infected, while in good health.

1. If you experience symptoms such as breathing difficulties, a strong feeling of weariness, high-grade fever, cough, consult with your local COVID 19 Call Center or medical institutions which can conduct PCR tests.
Yokohama City COVID 19 Call Center: 045 550 5530 (in Japanese only) *We recommend that you should find hospitals/clinics which conduct PCR tests in your neighborhood beforehand while you are in good health.

2. If you are diagnosed to have a novel coronavirus infection, you are requested to notify the YNU Health Service Center via telephone calls (045 335 1518, 9:00 to 17:00 on weekdays.)
If you live in one of the YNU dormitories, please also notify to the dormitory staff. Personal information will be protected, and you will not suffer any detrimental treatment.

3. If you are diagnosed as being infected having no or mild symptoms and judged by a doctor that hospitalization is not necessary, the public health center will request you to recuperate at home or a lodging facility. Please follow their instructions.

4. If you recuperate at home, you need to prepare meals by yourself, although you can’t go out during the recuperation period. You are advised to consider what to do for preparation when you are in good health. There are many meal delivery services nowadays. It will take some time for registration in Japanese, so you should ask your tutors, friends, etc. for support while you are in good health.
