Suspension of intake

YOKOHAMA National University (YNU) will support students and researchers who are unable to continue their studies or research due to the armed invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
Those who wish to be accepted should confirm the following information and obtain consent for acceptance from a YNU faculty member in advance.

Eligibility (total 5 persons)

Student

Eligibility: Students who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs in Ukraine and unable to continue their studies.
*Consent for acceptance must be obtained from YNU faculty member.
*Please note that there are cases in which acceptance may not be possible depending on the field of specialization and requirements.
Status: Accepted as a special audit student (to take classes) or special research student (to receive research guidance *Only for graduate students)

Researcher

Eligibility: Researchers who are currently employed in a Ukrainian university or research institution and unable to continue their research.
*The consent for acceptance must be obtained from YNU faculty member.
*Please note that there are cases in which acceptance may not be possible depending on the fields of specialization and requirements.
Status: Accepted as a visiting research fellow (No salary)

Period of Support

Until the end of March 2023 (extension of the support period will be considered depending on circumstances)

Support

・Assistance for entry into Japan (for those who are currently living outside Japan only)
・Support for visa acquisition, airline ticket arrangement, and travel expenses (up to 150,000 JPY) for coming to Japan

Tuition, etc. (for students only)

No application fee, entrance fee, or tuition fee

University Dormitory

Arrangement of housing in university dormitories (Minesawa International Student Dormitory, etc.) (Dormitory expenses are to be borne by the applicant)

Living Expenses Support

100,000 JPY per month

To Obtain Consent for Acceptance

Applicants must obtain consent for acceptance from YNU faculty member in advance. Please look for a suitable academic advisor from the List of Faculty Members and submit the Form A (Study Plan for students / Research Plan for researchers) to him/her to consult about your study plan/research details, acceptance conditions, and obtain his/her consent to be your academic advisor.
(In case his/her e-mail address is not on the list, send the form to the “YNU Ukraine Support Office” with his/her name and the name of his/her department. We will forward it to the appropriate faculty member).

Application for Support (Consent of Your Academic Advisor at YNU is Required)

Once you have received the consent from your academic advisor at YNU, please submit the following documents to the “YNU Ukraine Support Office” by email.

Student

・Copies of Student ID, Certificate of enrollment, etc.
・Copy of Passport
・Documents showing the consent of a YNU faculty member to accept you (copy of the e-mail, etc.)
・Study Plan to obtain consent for acceptance (Template format which you submitted to your academic advisor to obtain their consent)

Researcher

・Copies of Identification card, Certificate of employment, etc.
・Copy of Passport
・Documents showing the consent of the applicant to be accepted by YNU faculty member (copy of the e-mail, etc.)
・Research Plan to obtain consent for acceptance (Template format which you submitted to your academic advisor to obtain their consent)

Notification of Results

You will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of your application by e-mail within about one month of receipt of your application.
